250kW Anax Turboexpander Performance & Safety Test
Partners
Gas Technology Institute (GTI)
Capacity
250kW
Test Conducted
July 2017
Industry
Natural Gas Pipelines
Project Description
Applications
Anywhere that has sufficient flow of natural gas and a letdown of pressure, including: natural gas pipelines, natural gas power plants, large industrial users of natural gas and power (cement plants, fertilizer plants, chemical plants, steel plant, etc.), natural gas well-head
Test Overview
Primary goals for the test included full-scale proof of concept, verification of performance mapping, and in-service data collection as detailed in the GTI test protocols. GTI’s independent evaluation of the test results confirmed steady state performance of the GLG when operated at full power for an extended 50-minute duration and successful controlled and fast stop sequences. The performance and safety tests demonstrated technical feasibility and safe operation of the ASTE.
Economic Benefits
- Hundreds of thousands of dollars in cost savings and/or increased revenue for customers, depending on how the power is used.
- Increased plant efficiency by incorporating waste heat into the system.
Environmental Benefits
- Carbon-free power with over 80% efficiency
- 25-30 year lifespan of the technology
The Heat is Power Association (HiP) is the trade association for the waste heat to power (WHP) industry. WHP uses waste heat from industrial processes to generate electricity with no additional fuel, no combustion, and no incremental emissions. HiP educates policy makers about clean energy from waste heat and advocates for policies that provide parity for WHP with other sources of clean energy.
